Possible Locations Shots Part 3

When looking at outdoor places, we had to remember that we can't control outdoor lighting. So if we decided to film outside, we'd have to get it done in one day, in a short amount of time, as the weather and lighting can change at any point in time.

Possible Locations Shots Part 2

When considering possible positions, we looked at indoor and outdoor places, considering both lighting, the quality, the effect and if it would work well with our storyline and storyboard. We placed Nashay in the photo at certain points so that, we could really potray the act of the thriller and see if it worked well.

Possible Location Shots Part 1

My group and I went around our college and looked at specific locations which would fit our script and storyboard and work well for our teaser trailer. Below are the photos of places we considered.

Final Idea & Concept

This is our final storyboard and and sketches. This idea was inspired by the profitable Horror movie 'Orphan'. Our storyline is about two school kids who are the same age and are both knowledgeable. However one child has lost both parents and suffers serverly from a rare disease which affects her eyes, she is an isolated indivual. It is mandotory that she wears her 'special' glasses at all times. One of her classmates decides to remove her glasses, which is her only comfort and so her secret is revealed, she lives her life by the slogan 'Revenge Is Sweet, But Blood Is Sweeter'... What will she do to the bully?

Questionnaire & Results Part 1

My group and I came up with 20 questions in which to ask people, so we could get a gist of what to provide them in our trailer, poster and movie magazine. We needed to get the opinion of others as it was them who would be viewing our final products. So we wanted to make sure we addressed the correct audience by giving them what they expected and deserved. The first 1-10 questions are listed below with the results of the public given in charts.

The charts above and below help give my team members and I an easier job of creating our trailer, poster and movie magazine front cover. Knowing what the public; (our target audience) want is the key essential to producing a successful ending product. These results give us an explanation as to what our audience would prefer to see and what they wouldn't like to see. From these results, we can begin the process of creating our trailer, poster and movie magazine to please our audience.

Producing a questionnaire and having people answer it, is very helpful as it gives us a steady foundation from where we can start building collective ideas. From knowing what the public don't want to see, we can come together and produce what they do want. As with these results, we can only go higher and achieve better things for our final product.

Research: Potential Consumers

We are currently making questionnaires to give out, we are going to distribute 60 in total but divide the questionnaire by three so we will then have 20 each and feed the results back to each other, the results will reflect exactly what we need to consider and do as a film production company in order to meet the consumers demand. We will then distinguish between weather male or female watch horror movies more in this day and age. Weather for example consumers like fictional horror movies or real life events, based on true stories like 'Paranormal Activity'.
We plan to also upload the questionnaire to social websites such as facebook, twitter, and survey monkey to get an idea of what young adults would like to see.
As a group we chose these three websites in particular because we know that males and females aged 16-24 always use social networking sites and this is the age range which conventional horror movies target. This will also build a platform for which our targeted audience and storyline will be based upon, because as a production company it is our duty to meet the demand and needs of the consumers as the uses of gratification state.

New technology such as the iPhone and Blackberry mobile phones has enabled us to also contact potential consumers via Blackberry messenger and the Internet, which is going to build up our awareness and more people will be looking out for our teaser trailer and advertising products (Synergy).

Teaser Trailer Treatment

TEASER TRAILER TREATMENT
THE END.
Format: Video
Genre: Horror
Subgenre: Thriller, Mystery & Supernatural
Length: 30-55 seconds
Synopsis: Teenage girl of an Asian background is introduced to the audience. Kaiju looks like a normal teenager on the outside but suffers from a rare disease were her mentality is of a younger generation (7 or 8yrs old) while she is currently 16yrs old. Kaiju has a problem with her eye which is unknown to anyone. Her eyes are always covered with glasses. When she’s approached one day on her own, by a female who sees her alone and acting out of the ordinary the horror begins. Kaiju is always on her own and doesn’t like company at all, so when the female tries to take off Kaiju’s glasses for the first time ever the thriller and mystery begins. As the plan of the innocent female trying to help her backfires. The horror shows how Kaiju handles the situation with the female and the rest of her story is unfolded.

Intended Audience: The targeted audience for our trailer will be young adults aged between 16-24 – both male and female. Our targeted ethnicity will be Asians and Afro-Caribbean’s. We chose this ethnicity as our target audience as most horror films are not targeted at Afro-Caribbean’s and we wanted to set a trend and change that as it seems quite discriminating as Afro-Caribbean’s enjoy horror films too. Some of the dialogue, actions we plan to include will show how we are trying to attract our audience.

Extra Information: As a group, we intend to attract our audience by meeting their entertainment needs and show-casing their desired views and fascination. We will be airing our audience research and trailer on social websites worldwide such as; YouTube, Facebook, Twitter etc. This will enable us to receive positive and negative criticisms in order for us to improve our technical skills. We intend to do this with the assistance of specialist equipment and computer software. This will include high megapixel cameras, and recording apparatus. Additionally, in order to complete our assigned task, we will need to use ‘Adobe Photoshop’ to manipulate our photographs and produce a professional poster, promoting our film and movie magazine that will enhance the promotion and advertisement of our film.

Our First Idea, Why We Changed It, Draft Of Story Board And Rough Sketches

The drawings below show a rough sketch of our first idea, and the concept.
The first idea we came up with as a group was an old lady who was trapped in a young womans life, this young women has stayed the same age on the inside however she ages on the outside.
We changed our idea because we realised we had a limited amount of time and equipment to pursue this idea so as a result we had to change our idea and change the story board:

Research and demonstrating knowledge on horror movies/trailers

When thinking about the concept of our Horror trailer we watched various different trailers these include: Scream, The Ring, Gothika,The Others,Blair Witch and the Human centepide. This enabled us to get a rough idea of what a horror movie consists of and what makes their trailers so intereting that persudes the consumers to go and watch that particular film.

Advertisment is the most important element of marketing as it determines how profitable the fim we be and gets the message across to target audiences effectively,if the trailer is not interesting and does not intrigue the target audience then the film will not do as well as expected.

We discovered the main conventions of a horror trailer/ movie is:
Blood
Death
Killing
Villain
Victims
Haunted houses and isolated settings
Monsters
Evil
Weapons
Darkness
Storms
Chase sequences
Gore
Violence
Screams
Ghosts

As a group we had to consider props and locations were Accessible, so we decided to use screams, blood, darkness a victim and a villan. The concept of our story is the victim provokes/bullies the villan forcing the villan to kill the victim.

Textual Analysis Of A Movie Magazine - EMPIRE.

The front page of the magazine consists of a close up of actor, Heathe Ledger, otherwise and more commonly known as 'The Joker' from 'The Dark Knight'. He has strong eye contact with the audience of this magazine. His intense eye character also reflects the nature of the magazine, and suggests that the magazine and all of the concepts it consists of will be blunt and to the point. Through all the heavy eye make up, The Joker's eyes still manage to stand out. This immediately forms tension and also sugegsts that the nature of his character is cause tension and suspense.

There is no background colour for this particular magazine. This connotes the actors importantce to the magazine, and to the film industry, as an actor, on the whole.

A tagline on top of the masthead is visible; '2 COVERS TO COLLECT' This suggests that The Joker has been the face of not one Empire magazine front cover, but two. This perhaps highlights his importance to the magazine. The fact that that piece of text is placed on top of the title connotes its importance. The actual close of The Joker also agrees with this view.

The price and issue of the magazine can be found in between the 'M' Of EMPIRE. The fact that it is written in such small font, connotes that it is 'insignificant' in comparison to the model on the front cover, and the cover story.

Another tag line is visible, 'The Joker Vs. Batman - Summer Just Got Serious'. This has been adapted from The Joker's ever famousn saying 'Why So Serious?' - This additionally connotes The Joker's importance to the cover.

The colour scheme overall is black and green. Green is usually associated with jealousy and heightens the belief that perhaps The Joker is jealous or envious of Batman, for whatever reason.

The fact that no other pictures are visible on the cover, suggests the intention of the designer of the cover, was to have focus on only The Joker.

Textual Analysis Of A Horror Film Poster. - My Bloody Valentine.

The overall colours used for the entire poster are dull. Colours such as red, grey and black are often assoiciated with fear. As human beings, we tend tend to be afraid of things which are unable to be seen. Prime example – Darkness. So it’s no wonder that the designers and producers of this film poster used these colours, as one of their aims were perhaps to create a sense of fear, that might even be experienced in the film.

The centre of attention in this poster appears to be the three masked characters. There are dressed in black jumpsuits holding axes. Highlighting the point that was stated about fear originating from things that cannot be seen, the characters here are a prime example of this. Additionally, the characters are holding a weapon which seems to resemble an axe. It can be assumed that this is the weapon that the characters will use to inflict pain, injure and kill their victims.

The actual title of the film is written in red : MY BLOODY VALENTINE – This was done, to create an image of blood, once again highlighting and creating a sense of fear. The font of the title is quiet a straight forward writing, very bold and can be easily read. The last part of the title says ‘3D’ – it is written in white, so it stands out. This connotes the nature of the film, and the fact that it is a three dimensional film.

The text that can be located underneath the title, reads ‘Get Your Heart Broken’ – this statement has a double meaning. The usual definition of this statement would refer to being ‘hurt’ emotionally. However, the designers of the poster used this statement to their advantage. Scientifically speaking, if your heart was to ‘break’ this would conclude in the heart not being to supply the blood needed in order for you to survive, resulting in your death. But the actual meaning here, in this poster is that if you were to get your heart broken then that would mean that you would actually killed. The word phrase additionally links with the title. A ‘heart’ connotes love, and love is commonly classed as the overall theme for ‘Valentine’s Day’.

The fact that non verbal communication is not visible in the poster connotes a sense of suspense. We are unable to see the facial expressions of the characters in the poster, so naturally we will question what their motives are or what they are meant to be doing. The idea of suspence will eventually lead to fear. The idea of fear is immediately heightened by the characters holding weapons.

The main props used in the poster are the axes. Seeing as the film is a horror film, it is likely that this film in particular will fall into the ‘Slasher’ cateogry. It can additionally be imagined that the axes will be used to inflict pain on people. This also adds to the formation of fear.

The text at the bottom, presumably will be the credicts of the film, for example the director and the producers. The fact that the text is located at the bottom of the poster conveys the idea that that piece of text in particular is not all that important. A way to prove this would be to look at the font that the release date is written. It is written in bold red font, stating clearly the release date of the film. – ‘January 16’. This suggests that the producers of the posters intended to get certain points across; the release date, the name of the film, and the tag line of the film title.

Textual Analysis Of A Current Horror Teaser Trailer. - My Bloddy Valentine 3D.

'My Bloody Valentine 3D' was directed by Patrick Lussier and released in January 2009. Seeing as the context of the film was related to the idea of Valentine's Day, which is celebrated on February 14th, releasing the film in mid-January, before Valentines Day would be an ideal decision.

Overall the entire trailer lasts for approximately 1.20 seconds. The most prominnet devices used in the trailer are firstly all the traces of dialogue and speech used throughout and the various actors of 'victims'. The trailer appears to evolve around the actors, as they experience fear, and most probably, death. Some were chased, some chose to seek refuge in a hiding place, and where eventually found out, some were simply found doing something innocent, for example the two females shopping in the grocery store.

The voiceover in the trailer is the main narrator. The voice is that of a male. It is deep and husky. This is a generic feature of horror films, as it is very unlikely in a horror teaser trailer that one would hear the voice of a female, for example with a high pitched voice acting as a voiceover. It can be additionally satated that the narrator sets the scene for the entire trailer. He begins with the declarative; 'In the town of harmony, something unexplainable is happening...' Here, he elaborates on what is going on in the town. By using the adjective 'unexplainable' this connotes a sense of fear, as it is natural for humans to fear the unknown, the unseen, and in this case - the unexplainable.

In the opening shots, we hear a voice, the male uses an interrogative; 'Exactly what do you see?' - this connotes two things. Firstly that somethng is yet to be clarified, and that this 'something' is an issue for the person speaking. By using the word 'something' the male actpor has immediately installed a sense of fear in the audience's minds. The heavy soundtrack of fast paced drums also adds to this. Immediately after, another male actor says 'Something was following us'. This again connotes the idea of the 'fear of the unknown' - The fact that they are unable to pinpoint what EXACTLY is following them, of what EXACTLY they can see instantly conotes a sense of fear. Not so long after that we hear a female news reporter stating that 'This is the most horrific event this town has ever seen..' Notice how even the news reporter is unable to label what 'this' actually is. Isn't it not the duty of a news reporter to deliver accurate and informative news. Perhaps the producers of the trailer purposely used this statment in the format it appears in intentionally. Again, this touches upon the fear of the unknown.

Throughout the trailer, the lighting is low key. This again, is a generic feature used in horror teaser trailers. - This connotes a sense of fear. Fear is not likely to occur is well lit places, and if it does then that it highly unusual.

The non verbal communication demonstrated in the trailer is very exxagerrated, perhaps to convey and connote a sense of fear. For example, at precisely fourty five seconds into the trailer, we see a female. Her eyes are wide opened and her jaw is dropped. It could be assumed that she undergoing a moment of shock and extreme fear. This contributes to idea of fear being installed into the hearts of the people in this town.

The entire soundtrack of the trailer is a series of drums. Behind the drums is an eery tone. This tone in question cannot be easily made out. This could connote the 'unknown' that is constantly being brought to our attention. The pace of the soundtrack increases as the trailer progresses. It begins to quicken especially as shots of the 'victims' are visible, simulataneously the shots of the victims also increase in pace. This connotes the immediate death of the victims after being spotted by their predators.

To conclude, the trailer posseses various attributes that would eventually lead to a gripping and most importantly, entertaining movie. Additionally, the trailer presents the film without giving away the entire story line. This immediately creates suspense and prompts the audience to watch the movie when it is released.

Textual Analysis Of Movie Magazine - Fangoria

Textual Analysis of a ‘MOVIE MAGAZINE FRONT COVER’

Fangoria was first planned in 1978 under the name Fantastica as a companion to the science fiction media magazine Starlog just as Starlog covered science fiction films for a primarily teenaged audience; Fantastica was intended to cover fantasy films for a similar audience. Its first issue was in 1979 and is produced monthly; 10 issues annually.
This textual analysis will concentrate on the movie magazine front cover of film fan magazine Fangoria, which specialises in the genres of horror. The editor of the magazine is Chris Alexander and its company is The Brooklyn Company Inc.
The magazine cover consists of a colour photograph of a man looking directly at the camera. It is a medium close-up shot revealing his head and a bit of his shoulders. In front of the man is the Fangoria Masthead. A bar code is visible in the bottom left corner. The main thing seen when looking at this magazine is the masthead and the main coverline. The masthead is at the top were majority of magazine title’s are. It’s written in a dark red, (which may symbolise dry blood) with a white out line and a dim black shadow behind. Its’ font style resembles fangs which is ironic as the beginning of the magazine name is “FANG”. The last two letters of Fangoria are inverted like fangs. The ‘f’ on the left side inverts in like a fang on the left side of a mouth, and the ‘a’ inverts like the right side of a fang in a mouth. The ‘Fangoria’ text is on top of the background picture and above the character’s forehead. It’s centred and stretched out so that the title fits across the page, with not much room left and the sides. The masthead is not positioned at the top of the magazine, but a bit lower as the selling line is along the top. On the left side of the masthead, the issue number of the magazine, is written in small writing.
The coverline is written in red too, but a brighter red which may connote blood. The style of writing is unusual as it’s not one that is always seen in magazines; the style of writing seems to be a stencil font.  The second word is much bigger than the first word which draws people’s attention as to wonder what ‘crazies’ the magazine is talking about. The word ‘the’ sits on top of the word ‘crazies’ in between the letters ‘c’ and ‘r’. The coverline also has a yellow/gold shadow which enhances the chances of grabbing the reader’s attention.
The Cover photograph is the background of the magazine; it is also of a white man up close. He is also seen from his neck upwards and is plastered with scabbed wounds, along the side of his face and has red eyes with one green pupil and one blue/grey pupil. He has a long blonde moustache which comes down to his face, although the initial length is not seen due to the text and picture size. He has a small grin which just about shows his teeth, which are off-white and a little yellow. The scary look which the magazine was going for is has definitely been achieved as the photo is quite scary. You can see that the man in the photo is wearing a khaki shirt as the colour and a little bit of the shoulder is revealed in the shot. Obviously the make-up and costume has been chosen carefully to appeal to the target audience of the magazine, who are most likely to be teenagers.
Above the masthead reveals to readers that the magazine doesn’t focus on the cover story, it also names other films featured in the magazine as well. It has ‘Bloody remakes!’ on the top left-hand corner in yellow, which may mean remakes of the films listed which consist of a lot of blood. The yellow font also makes it stand out from the rest of the magazine as the colour theme of the magazine consists of red and a light shade of gold. It is also written in an unusual font which has a crack in the letter ‘k’. To me, the crack represents fear and danger, which is a bonus effect to add to a horror magazine. Four films are then listed along vertically, with white circle dots to separate them.
Towards the bottom of the front cover, a small dark yellow/gold nonagon is draw on top of the picture. It’s highlighted with a glow in order to grab the attention of the readers. Inside the nonagon has text which promotes another film. In bold capitals it says ‘SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD’ in yellow, this is written in the middle of the text, so capture the reader’s attention, so that the film title subliminally stays in their mind.
Below the nonagon, is the barcode which has the price and where the magazine was made. The barcode is turned anti-clockwise and is portrait. Underneath the barcode has the website of the Fangoria magazine written in really tiny font, this is also written in white.
Above the ‘s’ on the coverline which reads ‘The Crazies’ has the text ‘It’s a mad world’ written in capital letters with a cream/yellow colour. The word ‘world’ is written behind the letter ‘s’ on the coverline.  It has also been formatted so that it gets smaller by each word and droops down.
When considering all of these points, I realise that making a movie magazine, is not going to be as simple as easy as I’d like it to be. The position of the character in the magazine plays a big element of how the magazine turns out, as it’s about space on the magazine, making sure that everything that I want on the magazine is able to fit. When shooting, I have to take into account lighting, positioning, camera angle etc as it’s not just a regular photo I’m taking; it’s to be published on a magazine, so the quality needs to be good. Another aspect I need to consider is my font style, size, arrangement and text for the magazine. The way the ‘Fangoria’ magazine was put together appeals to their genre and target audience, so I need to make sure that when I have my final product, my target audience should also appeal and to my target audience.

Textual Analysis of Movie Poster - Ringu

Textual Analysis of a ‘MOVIE POSTER’

Hideo Nakata’s movie ‘Ringu’ was the original movie that inspired The Ring. The Ring series are very popular horror movies as it entails a gripping storyline and a scary monster. Ringu being the first out of the series, showed viewers how great Japanese horrors really were. Ring was first brought to the Japanese public's attention by a TV series which featured many of the actors which went on to appear in the rest of the trilogy.
This textual analysis will concentrate on the horror movie poster for Ringu also known as Ring, which was published in the United Kingdom. There were many different versions of the poster which were published worldwide, so I chose the more known and common one.
The poster consists of a colour photograph of an Asian woman look directly at the camera. It is an extreme close-up shot showing her left eye and revealing a few strands of hair which is dangled in front of her face; enhancing only the eye to be captured by viewers. What makes this picture stand out and relate to horror is the eye colour of the woman. Her eyeball and pupil are fully black which connotes darkness and maybe hidden secrets. As this is the only thing we really see, it does make viewers wonder what exactly this film could be about. The poster gives a sense of mystery which may attract many audiences. What also enhanced the genre on this horror poster are the veins showing on her eyelid. They show stress and tension which could be the cause of a certain situation in the film. Her black thin hair drops in front of her face, making only her eye and a bit of her eyebrow visible. Lines and bags under her eyes are also noticeable which may either mean she’s an older woman or that something at that point may be worrying or causing distress upon her. The photo covers the whole of the poster. In front of the woman is the movie title ‘Ring’ which is written at the top right hand corner in red. Putting the film title in the top right hand corner, rather than in the centre (like most posters/magazine covers) gives the viewers a better chance of seeing the picture and making some judgement on it. It gives us a better and wider intake on the genre and what the film entails.
On the top left hand corner next to the film title, a review of the movie is said by someone with 4 stars shown underneath their sentence. It is written in white bold capital letters, which stand out from the complexion of the female. The person/company whom said “SEE IT IF YOU DARE” name is written in red. This grabs viewer’s attention as it teases them, and makes them want to see it more. It questions their ability, and braveness.  Another review is written at the bottom of the poster in white, bold capitals which read “MAKES THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT SEEM LIKE A STROLL IN THE WOODS”. Once again the company name of who said it is written in small red capitals below. This sentence promotes the horror in the movie by sarcastically comparing it to another horror movie (The Blair Witch Project) and saying it was something easy to watch, whereas in fact the movie was really scary. The age 15 certificate sign is placed at the bottom left corner.
When looking at all of these points, I would suggest that the most likely target audience would be people (male and female) aged 18 and over from an Asian and maybe white background.

Textual Analysis Of Teaser Trailer - Hideo Nakata's Ringu

Hideo Nakata’s movie ‘Ringu’ was the original movie that inspired the ring.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9Z-MOqAvtY

The Ring series are very popular horror movies as it entails a gripping storyline and a scary monster known as Kaiju in Japanese. Ringu being the first out of the series, showed viewers how great Japanese horrors really were. Based on a series of best-selling novels by Kôji Suzuki, Ring was first brought to the Japanese public's attention by a TV series which featured many of the actors which went on to appear in the rest of the trilogy.
This textual analysis will concentrate on the teaser trailer for Hideo Nakata’s horror film ‘Ringu/Ring’ which was written by Hiroshi Takahashi and was distributed in Japan by Ace Pictures, and also had many other distributors for different countries. The teaser trailer lasted 51 seconds which is common for teaser trailers as they aren’t suppose to reveal too much, common teaser trailers last between 30-55 seconds.
The trailer opens up showing a close-up of some sort of film on a TV which doesn’t seem to be running properly, as if to say the signal/TV is faulty as the clip continuously plays three times. This reveals to be a female upside down with her mouth wide open. While opening up non-diegetic sound is queued for about 1-2 seconds. The noise is similar to a heart beat or a distinctive sharp bang.
The next cut is a slow tracking shot moving towards a female seen from behind trying to work the television again. Her surroundings seem to be her living room as a coffee table containing multiple remotes is behind her; she has a remote in her hand and seems quite comfortable right in front of the television. Her living room is quite darkly lit and it seems the only source of light is coming from the television. Diegetic sound from the television not working is including in this shot but it also seems that maybe a Foley artist was used in order to enhance the sound of the television unable being able to work. A quick cut of the television fuzzing is shown close-up and then the next cut shows a bit of the film being visible to her. It seems as though there is multiple people crawling on the floor, although their physical features isn’t evident the outline of the things seem to be human bodies. The television scene is darkly lit and just about noticeable. The actual shot itself is a point of view shot as the audience is seeing exactly what the person is seeing from their shot/angle. Non-diegetic sound is used once again here, the sound seems quite sci-fi and alien/species related as if it has something to do with the future as its quite blurred too.
Following on, in the next frame shows a dark shot that just about makes visible that it’s an extreme close-up of a persons’ eye as they blink. The shot is quite fast as if to say a blink. The details of the persons’ eye is inconspicuous but only reveals to be an eye as the eyelids are revealed, but the rest is left faded in complete darkness.
The transition then quickly cuts back to the female watching the film, but it’s a close-up of her from the front, her face is only visible due to the lighting of the TV which is shown by the side of her face. She turns her head quickly to the opposing side in fear of something being there. Suddenly, what looks to be a close-up of an old picture of her is then shown to the audience; the female in the picture seems to be bruised showing blood. At the same time the picture is shown sound effects of the piano being played hard and fast occurs.
The next shot is of complete darkness with a torch light as the only source of light. The shot lasts about 1-2 seconds and involves the torch slowly moving up as if to say searching for something – although the person holding the torch isn’t that visible. You notice the female and her hands around the torch looking down the hole/well.
The transition fades into the darkness and shows an arc point of view shot of down the well. Although, viewers can’t see anything the circular movement of the camera gives a sense of horror as to what could be down there.
A quick extreme close up of the female before is shown. She gasps in a shock as to what she has seen making the audience wanting to see it too.  A thump sound is heard and at that point the view of the females face changes for a split second, it becomes much lighter so you can slightly see her bones. At this point she lifts her head up slightly and then an extreme quick shot of the television fuzzy is shown. The next frame is something on the television again. It seems as though it’s a female on the water pointing at or towards something. The visual effects of the television aren’t clear at all and have a sort of blue colour to it.
The next shot isn’t lit very well and would be in complete darkness if it wasn’t for the lamp at the end of the hallway. This scene is shot in a hallway and is a medium shot of the female answering the phone. We as viewers don’t hear it ring but we see her picking it up. She doesn’t say anything on the phone and you don’t hear the recipient say anything ever, but the lady slams the phone down hard and begins panting in fear. Continuing on, as soon as she puts the phone down the shot changes to a hand grabbing a wrist with great force. This shot contrasts the last one as it is quite brightly lit. The hand of the person grabbing a wrist is quite excruciating as it looks as though their fingernails have been picked off and there are a lot of dark elements to it. As the hand grabs the wrist the Non-Diegetic sound from earlier is heard again. The sound of a loud heart beat or a distinctive bang.
The next frame is darkly lit but shows the female on the ground unable to breathe due to suffocation. Her pupils are dilating and her mouth is opened widely but no sound is coming up. The thing suffocating her is not visible to the audience.
The audience is then given a point of view shot which shows some sort of underground, tunnel or basement. As the camera follows the movements of the area, it is shown to be dark and we realise the camera is the torch light that is allowing us to see down there. The torch light is a distinctive circle that is in the centre of wherever the camera makes us look. The audience is shown rocky walls and wooden stands. This gives the audience the illusion that something is hiding there as well as the question of who is looking at this. Then for a split second an extreme close up of a pale female whose face is covered by her long black hair. Her eyebrow and her eyeball which is fully black is the only thing shown.
After that, a shot of a lady who looks similar to the one in the beginning is shown, quickly crawling up to her child and covering their face. The woman is crying. The scene is at night as it’s dark, both characters are in their pyjamas and the only source of light is from the window which could be a lamp post, stars or the moon. It’s also a medium shot. The only sound used in this shot are the lady crying and Non-Diegetic sound of what sounds like train tracks screeching/skidding.

A quick cut of a wall which has Chinese words and letters begin moving around very quickly on its own. A scene which looks to be on the TV again, shows a female in a long white gown in the middle of the woods with both her arms raised up. The frame then cuts to the female mother close up crying, she is shot from the side but then turns her head around slowly. It is a low shot and when she turns her head around clockwise the camera zooms into her face making the shot an extreme close up. I think that the extreme close up helps the audience understand her emotions and feelings. As she turns her had 180degrees, the clip of the female in the woods is shown again then it cuts off. A arm then slowly appears stretching upwards appears in the darkness. The arm looks wet & sticky. It then cuts to a quick shot of two arms and the left hand of the person/thing moves slightly forward. As it does this Diegetic sound of the hand sliding/scratching paper quickly is heard.
A medium shot of a man who is darkly lit but has a bit of lighting on the side of his face is revealed. He looks as though his struggling and then suddenly gasps. An eye-line match shot is shown to what he was looking at. The female from the woods who was dressed in white appears and is standing by the window. Her face or any other detailed view isn’t shown only her outline appearance. The lighting from the window reveals reflects her physical appearance as the curtains of the window is also white. A quick cut back to the man at an extreme close up is made known, the camera then tilts and he is shown from upside down screaming. The colour then changes to black and white and quick cuts of the female with the black eyeball is shown three times while he is still screaming and then the effect of his face changes to one similar to an X-Ray.
The film then cuts out with opinions of the movies at the end, then the title of the movie written largely in red with a Non-Diegetic sound of a trumpet as it appears. As the text gets bigger a few shots of the film shown before are revealed and then it ends.
I chose to analysis this film as the shots of the eye are similar to what my group and I wanted to feature in our movie. I think the way that the film ends with re-showing certain shots is a good idea and my group may come up with similar ideas when editing our trailer. The sounds used also enhanced the horror which is what my group will definitely want to do. Analysing this trailer gave me a good sense of ideas and connotations which will help me in advance when filming with my group.
